Tuesday 6/1/15 – One thing that you find on this ski Europe holiday is the variety of different ski locations that are available. Todays plan is to ski a different ski area, Rinerhorn, a short 5 minute bus trip the other way from Davos – out of town.
Many of the group members decided not to go there today as apart from the gondola lifting you out of the valley top mid mountain, the rest of the lifts are T bars. So today the group basically split into 2 – half going to Parsenne again and the other half to Rinerhorn.
Allan diligently checked out the bus timetable the previous evening to ensure all were on time for the bus (which runs about every 20 minutes). So at 8:40, the 10 of us were waiting for the bus, which arrived on time. However, it was the no. 1 bus only going to Spital, (just one more stop down the road) and the no.7 bus which went all the way to Glaris / Rinerhorn was due in another 15 minutes. Clearly a thong nomination for Allan.
When we arrived, Rinerhorn was virtually empty. Our group had the entire area to ourselves, hardly anyone else on slope – no queues – fantastic. The weather was brilliant but some of the groomed runs were not yet open, but were being prepared and so the skiing was a bit limited. However, the runs were long and plenty of good skiing to be had. The top of Nullisch Gratt back to the valley at Glaris was a 1 klm vertical and the run was in perfect condition from top to bottom – could not believe no one else was here. After doing this run a few times, we knew we had a good ski day.
Of note was that on the 2 Km Nullisch T bar (yes – 2 K’s), Ning brought down Helen near the start and they both had to side slip back down the T bar track to get back on. Lucky we were the only people using this T bar. – a cruise day where everyone enjoyed themselves – and the ladies excelled on the pistes for the video – have a look at the action of the girls in sync with the slopes all to themselves.
Meanwhile on Parsenn – some decided not to go out at all, but have a rest day as getting into these long runs too quickly caused some sore legs. Brent was back there somewhere looking for more powder bowls, while some are pacing themselves and saving themselves for next week in Lech. … and thats’ the thing about this tour – it is un-regimented in that you can ski as much or as little as you like, with and wherever you like.
We finished skiing early (about 2 pm), returned to Davos Platz (only one bus going back so can’t make a mistake on the return journey) and Allan took videos of the town scenes and also the river for the ski Europe holiday 2015 DVD.
Thong awarded to Allan for stuffing up departure time, with Ning getting a mention for excellent T bar skills!
