Monday, 12/1/15 – We plan to ski Zurs.

The 11th day of this Europe Ski Tour and it looks like snow has stopped – plan is to get to the lifts as soon as they open, get some early first track runs, then off to ski Zurs by about mid morning.

Brent & Paul (Maverick & Goose) went off early with a plan to ski the run to Zug – they didn’t get that sorted so ended up at the same lift as the rest of us for the 9:00 kick off.  However, in his haste to get going, Paul’s stock got stuck, between the electronic turnstile and a small building, and in trying to get it out, his other one also got stuck,.  So he was waiting there as the rest of us went off for our first tracks runs (no friends on a fresh powder day).  Paul had to wait until a lifty came to his rescue, while the rest of us got is some nice early powder runs on the far right side of the Shleggekopf area.

When they eventually made it uphill, Brent & Paul went exploring the Kriegerhorn area – they didn’t make the Zug run as there was plenty on offer on front side.  However, they were caught and warned for crossing a barrier and skiing in a forbidden area – they almost lost their ski passes.

Europe Ski Tour -Ski Zurs

Zurs

After 1st tracks, we walked across the road to the Ruffikopf cable car for the run to ski Zurs.  Skiing to Zurs was tricky with high winds and pistes that were very icy as the cover was blown off.  The wind kept picking up all day, and with Zurs being fairly high there was little protection.  The chairs were starting to run slow,  so after lunch at the top of Seekopf, we decided to head back to Lech which was much calmer.   The white ring circuit was closed as they were saving it for the race on Saturday, so we bussed it back downhill.

Paula’s knee was giving her grief, so she finished early to ice it – may have to rest it now for a few days.

In the evening, Ning gave Paula a knee brace which seemed to help – see if she goes out tomorrow

Harry’s thong speech was his typical speech, taking the opportunity to highlight the days events in his typical humorous style- but much to Paul’s relief he eventually settled on Brent for his mornings out of bound misadventure
